Everyone deserves to feel happy and confident with every aspect of their body. But sometimes it can be the little things holding you back from feeling this way. Spider veins are one common issue that many people deal with. Despite how common they are, they’re often a source of insecurity. Thankfully, there is a simple solution that can address spider veins: Sclerotherapy. Keep reading to learn more about how this treatment works and see how you can make your spider veins disappear.
How Sclerotherapy Works
First, it’s important to understand what spider veins are. They’re damaged blood vessels just beneath the skin that often look blue, red, or purple. They form when valves inside the veins weaken. This treatment can help improve the appearance of spider veins and very small varicose veins.
Sclerotherapy is the name for the procedure itself that works to address the veins. Essentially a medicine is injected into the vessels that causes them to shrink, reducing their appearance. Here at Blurr’d Lines Med Spa we use Asclera, a prescription medication that impairs the internal lining of the blood vessels, eventually leading them to be replaced by tissue.
Sclerotherapy: how many sessions will be needed?
The number of sessions you will need and the regularity of your treatments will depend on your specific situation. The size and location of your vessels will need to be taken into consideration to create a customized treatment suitable for your needs. Your provider will discuss this all with you during your consultation.
Sclerotherapy: how long does it last?
The results from your Sclerotherapy treatment are permanent in the sense that once existing veins are treated, they won’t gradually come back over time. However, it’s important to note that the treatment does not prevent new spider veins or varicose veins from developing over time.
Sclerotherapy: what to expect
Each session generally lasts between 15 and 45 minutes. If you need more than one treatment session, you’ll typically have a gap of 1-2 weeks in between each session.
After treatment, your healthcare provider may advise you to wear compression stockings continuously for 2-3 days, followed by wearing them only during the day for another 2-3 weeks. Compression stockings help ensure your legs get proper blood flow, reducing the risk of complications, swelling, and discomfort.
Sclerotherapy: Can I exercise after treatment?
Exercise is actually part of the Sclerotherapy healing process. It’s recommended that you take a 15-20 minute walk immediately after treatment and continue to walk regularly in the following days. However, it’s also recommended that you steer clear of intense physical exercise for 2-3 days following your Sclerotherapy injection.
Who should not have Sclerotherapy?
Your provider will be able to let you know during your consultation if you aren’t a good candidate for Sclerotherapy. Generally, it may not be suitable for those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, confined to bed rest, or have a history of clotting issues.
Are Sclerotherapy injections safe?
Sclerotherapy is a very simple procedure that’s typically viewed as safe. However, as with any treatment, there is a risk of minor side effects. You can discuss them with your provider during your consultation to learn more. Be assured that Asclera, along with any other products we use, is FDA-approved. In addition, any of our providers who can perform Sclerotherapy are extensively trained and take pride in promoting a patient-provider relationship that’s built on trust.
How effective is Asclera?
Asclera has a very high satisfaction rate. Although the number of sessions needed to achieve ideal results varies, the Asclera benefits are clearly visible when you take a look at before and after pictures. You can see some photos of our patients’ results here.
