Asclera® is a prescription medication, used by healthcare providers in a procedure called sclerotherapy. It is specifically used to treat two types of veins in the legs.
  • Uncomplicated spider veins (very small varicose veins ≤ 1 mm in diameter)
  • Uncomplicated small varicose veins (1 to 3 mm in diameter) known as reticular veins

The quantity and regularity of treatments vary based on the size and location of the vessels. Consult your provider regarding a personalized treatment approach suitable for your needs.

Asclera® is an injected sclerosing agent that functions by impairing the endothelium, the internal lining of blood vessels. This process prompts the attachment of blood platelets and cellular debris to the vessel lining, resulting in the formation of a blood clot. Over a period of time, the clotted vein will be gradually replaced by tissue.

Each session typically lasts between 15 and 45 minutes. Generally, it may be necessary to administer 1 to 3 injections to treat a particular spider or reticular vein. Additional treatment sessions may be required, usually with a gap of 1 to 2 weeks between each session.

After treatment, your healthcare provider may advise you to wear compression stockings continuously for the first 2 to 3 days, followed by wearing them during the daytime for an additional 2 to 3 weeks. Compression stockings are specifically designed to exert pressure on your lower legs, which aids in promoting blood flow, minimizing discomfort, and reducing swelling. Wearing compression stockings is crucial for promoting healing and reducing the risk of deep vein thrombosis.

Additionally, it is recommended to take a 15 to 20-minute walk immediately after treatment and continue doing so on a daily basis for a few days.

After the treatment, it is advisable to steer clear of the following activities for 2 to 3 days:
  • Intense physical exercise
  • Sunbathing
  • Long plane journeys
  • Hot baths, hot tubs, or saunas

If you have any uncertainties regarding activities to avoid after the procedure, be sure to consult your healthcare provider.
